HäXan (1922) - New hermitage Edit
Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages is Benjamin Christensen's 1922 silent horror film on the history of witchcraft in Europe. The film is an essay in seven parts and covers topics ranging from the earliest accounts of witchcraft found in ancient mythology, characteristics of a "typical" witch from the middle ages, witch hunts and religious inquisition, and how witchcraft can be explained away in modern times.
This score was performed and recorded live at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville, NS, on Halloween night, 2020. Due to time constraints, this version of the film has been edited down to one hour in length.
